The W Aspen opened its doors in August of 2019. It is parked at the corner of E Durant Avenue and S Spring Street, previously occupied by the Sky Hotel. It offers 88 rooms, along with 11 W- branded residences, and the room types are both unique and atypical. Room types range from tiered beds, bunk beds, standard rooms or spectacular suites. The rooms are decent size and the contemporary style weaves in a nod to the traditional chalet.
Upon walking through the front door of the hotel, you are immediately struck by the vibrant colors and playful décor, which beckons you to come in and explore. The Welcome Reception area creates an air of comfort and casualness with individual check-in counters and inviting furniture for lounging.
If you are just stopping in for drinks or dinner, head up the stairs to the second floor Living Room. Grab a seat at the bar or opt for a more intimate table. The layout of the Living Room allows to you soak up the vibe while still being able to claim your own space. If weather permits, definitely wander out to the Terrace. The views are magnificent, and you can’t beat the relaxing atmosphere with the giant fire pit.
The top floor or WET Deck, which is where the pool is located, is the perfect retreat for sipping drinks and end-of-day conversation. The WET Deck is splattered with a variety of outdoor seating, a bar area, fire pits and stunning 360-degree views of the mountains.
39 Degrees, which carries it reputation over from the Sky Hotel, is the reinvented underground cocktail bar and grotto tucked away on the ground floor. With its red carpet and retro décor, you may want to stop in for a night cap, just to check it out.
Outside the hotel, just a few steps from the front door, is the W Townie Truck offering casual café-type seating. The menu offers up smoothies, ice cream and excellent sandwiches in addition to some good ole people watching.
The hotel’s location gives you easy access to the mountain, a diverse selection of restaurants, galleries, shops and outdoor activities. The front drive can get congested, mainly during check- in and check-out times, as the Little Nell and the Aspen Alps Condos also share the street. The front door staff are efficient at keeping everyone moving so you usually don’t have to wait long but just a heads up if you are visiting the W Aspen for the first time.
